Maintenance Gap in ATM Keypads

Automated teller machines include numerical keypads that users press to enter personal identification numbers. These keypads underwent regular maintenance through wiping with soft cloths.

The wiping addressed residues left by fingers during repeated presses and occurred on a scheduled basis.

These wiping actions no longer take place.

The keypads remain mounted on the machines in public spaces and continue to register presses for transactions.

Keypads stay in position as part of the teller machines, available for use without the previous wiping maintenance.

The arrangement of ATM keypads exists with surface wiping absent.
