Playground seesaws consist of a long board balanced on a central pivot point. This pivot enables the board to move up and down when pushed by users at each end.
The pivot points of these seesaws were once lubricated regularly. Maintenance workers applied oil to the metal joint where the board connects to its support, repeating this action every few months.
Lubrication of seesaw pivot points no longer takes place.
Seesaws continue to stand in playgrounds throughout communities. The equipment remains in position, accessible for use as it has been.
The current arrangement of playground seesaws exists without the previous lubrication of their pivots.
